Back in 2009 I chanced upon the work of fashion and celebrity photographer Rebecca Litchfield at her Masters Degree showcase, whilst writing an article for an online magazine. I’ve been a follower of her work ever since, so when the opportunity arose to assist her on a fashion editorial shoot in Shoreditch at the end of last year I literally jumped at the chance! Packing up my travel kit, I popped down with my camera to take some behind the scenes shots and generally be the kit carrying monkey for the day! Meeting at Box Park in Shoreditch, the very lovely people at Pieminster allowed us to use their pop up restaurant as a hair and make up space whilst the rest of us devoured gallons of hot chocolate in an attempt to stay warm. Thank goodness it was December and not February as we were all completely frozen through!

The very lovely team at Bowens had given Rebecca a Gemini 500 portable lighting kit to work with for the day so my first task was to set up the light, softbox and check the Pulsar trigger whilst battling against the wind and lots of interested passers by! The kit was actually extremely portable and the travel bag with wheels made for a much better carrying method than my current lighting bag. I might need to invest in one of those! Meanwhile model Valeriya had slipped into a structured dress by Liz Black and styling team Sophie and Nina were adding the final touches to the hair and make up.

Shooting under the stairwell of the Box Park pop up mall with incredible accessories from Sammie-Jo Coxon, this image has a really industrial, futuristic feel to it.

Later on in the afternoon, we moved location to Brick Lane, where Rebecca located a great little doorway to shoot against. Dressed in a gorgeous Chi Chi Luo dress and more of Sammie-Jo’s jewellery collection, Valeriya looked amazing and the warm colours definitely brightened up a winter afternoon!

As the light faded for the afternoon, we moved locations one last time to a studio location at the end of Brick Lane, where Nina brought out some more incredible outfits from Tessa Edwards, Liz Black and Chi Chi Luo. As well as some traditional editorial shots, Rebecca experimented with long exposures and rear sync flash to create these ghostly images, which turned out to be my favourites of the day.
