Valentine’s Day Ideas For Photographers

Jan 26, 2017 | Education

Spoil the photographer in your life this Valentine’s Day.

Not feeling the flowers and chocolates this year? Here’s a few alternative ideas of how you can spoil the photographer in your life this Valentine’s Day…

Find your nearest photobooth for some couple selfies: I have some serious love for the photobooth. There’s something really awesome about how the four images always capture a little narrative. Probably because no one can keep a straight face for that long in such a confined space! Photobooths are super fun and a great way to document your day together, but the images could also be the start of a little tradition, collecting a new set of photos for each year you are together. If you’re based in London, Manchester or Brighton, check out the Photomatic website for all the locations of their booths. Other booths may also be available…

Plan a photo walk for two: Looking for something budget friendly to do on Valentine’s Day? Why not grab your cameras and head outdoors together. You could head into town for some urban exploring, or wander off the beaten track to see the world from a brand new viewpoint. The great thing about photo walks is that you’ll both come back with a complete different set of photos, which you could pop into a quick slideshow and share with each other over a drink at home later.

See an exhibition: If looking at photos is more your thing, why not visit a gallery for a spot of culture. If you haven’t already been, you could catch the end of the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize 2016 exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery. Or how about The Radical Eye: Modernist Photography from the Sir Elton John Collection at the Tate Modern?

Take photos of each other: Whether you opt for a classical portrait or set the mood for the evening by directing your own boudoir shoot at home, get your camera out and have some fun directing your own photoshoot! No one ear has to see the photos, so get creative and enjoy shooting for pleasure rather than fulfilling a client brief.

Order Some Prints: There’s nothing more important in life than existing in photographs, so why not spend part of Valentine’s Day choosing your favourite photos of the two of you and ordering some prints to put in frames. Ikea offer a ready made frames in a huge range of colours, aspect ratios and sizes. They even offer wall templates to help you get your frames hung on the wall evenly spaced and level!
