Its a chilly Saturday night in London and – like most people I imagine – I’m snuggled up in the duvet at home, watching the snow fall softly through the window. I suppose we’re getting used to this sort of weather in February now, although at least 2011 brought with it the inventions of an adult onesie and the snuggie, so one can stay relatively warm whilst editing all weekend! After last week’s bout of germs and the nasty finger incident (burlesque injury) I managed to sit down yesterday and today to catch up with all the editing that has been building up on the studio iMac, including this shoot with burlesque compere and fantastic jazz singer Coco Du Bois. Coco and I met around about a year ago whilst on a photoshoot at Proud Cabaret and was, at the time, as new to the burlesque scene as I was photographing it! As one of the very first burlesque photoshoot commissions I ever had (click here to see my first photoshoot with Coco Du Bois), it was great to see how both Coco had developed as a performer and model, whilst also comparing my work images over a twelve month development period. As we both agreed, it was like shooting a completely different woman on Coco’s part, not only through embracing her darker side but also through many months of regular shooting. On the other hand, I’m also in a much more equipped studio with a far greater knowledge of both lighting techniques and editing skills. What a difference a year makes, hey?
As well as shooting some more fashion style images, Coco had managed to get her hands on a vintage style microphone that she’d brought along with her on the day. Teamed with a stunning black dress that showed off absolutely every asset to the max, we experimented with different techniques of ‘singing’ to make sure we got the perfect shot. This has to be one of my overall favourites.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Coco shoot without some form of lingerie, so we got her reclining comfortably in a gorgeous set from the new Ann Summers collection!
