Hello gorgeous! Can you believe we’ve almost made it to the end of 2020? It’s been a wild ride of a year and, although the vaccine is now being rolled out across the country, it seems Christmas is going to look very different for a lot of us this year. With this in mind, I thought I’d put together a list of 9 Socially Distanced Christmas Ideas to help you and your loved ones celebrate the festive season, wherever you are in the world…
GO FOR A SOCIALLY DISTANCED CHRISTMAS WALK
One of my favourite things to do on Christmas Day is to get outside and go for a long walk! The fresh air always feels good and stops me from falling asleep on the sofa after my roast dinner (bring on the Yorkshire’s!). You could always turn it into a photo walk: take your camera or smartphone with you and create some memories!
TRY A VIRTUAL ESCAPE ROOM
Looking for a little Christmas Day escapism? Having previously completed The Network earlier in the year, James and I have ordered The Charm Of Christmas Past – a festive play-at-home escape room, suitable for 2-6 players, that promises a ‘journey back through time, solving conundrums and enigmas of Christmases past.’ Definitely recommended!
PLAY AN ONLINE GAME WITH FRIENDS OR FAMILY
Is Christmas even Christmas without a board game?! If you can’t all be in the same room, then grab yourself a free Steam account (available on both Mac and PC) and purchase a copy of Tabletop Simulator per household (£14.99). The base game includes 15 classic games like Chess, Poker and Dominos. Additionally, you can also find thousands of community-created content, including Pictionary, Superfight and Cards Against Humanity.
OPEN YOUR PRESENTS VIA FACETIME/ZOOM
If you’re spending Christmas Day apart from your loved ones, why not schedule a time for a video call to open your presents at the same time. You could call first thing in the morning as soon as Santa has been, or if you’re all night owls, why not stay up and have a midnight celebration with mince pies and a tipple!
TREAT YOURSELF TO SOME SELF-CARE
Spending your first ever Christmas in your own home this year? Try to make the most of it, and nourish your body and soul in some indulgent self-care, however that may look for you. From cracking out the colouring pencils to meditation, here’s a list of self-care suggestions to give you some inspiration.
CREATE A SHARED MUSIC PLAYLIST
Get in the festive spirit by creating a playlist of your favourite Christmas tunes and sharing it with your friends and family so they can all join in on the festive cheer! Here’s mine (iTunes) if you want some inspiration to get you started.
HAVE A WATCH PARTY
Fancy a movie? Why not organise a watch party! Synchronise pressing the play button on your personal devices, or check out Disney+ GroupWatch – a feature I’ve just discovered that lets you watch any title on Disney+ with your personal friends and family virtually through the app. It will sync your streams so that you can easily watch together, even when you’re apart. Cool, huh?
HAVE A SOCIALLY DISTANCED GINGERBREAD DECORATING COMPETITION
Perfect for all the family; why not show off your icing skills with a little friendly socially distanced gingerbread decorating competition? Sali (my Queen of Socials) and I are going to do this! Baking is, of course, optional. You could take photos and get the internet to do a poll on who made the best looking ones!
MAKE A 2020 GRATITUDE LIST
Finally, why not make a gratitude list! Write down all the positive things that happened to you in 2020 – from the smallest of wins to the epic moments – and pop them up on display somewhere visible so you can remind yourself of them as we enter 2021. I’ll be working on my own list during the next week to share on the blog as my last post of the year!
Still looking for a socially distanced Christmas gift? Why not treat someone you love (or yourself!) to a Virtual Boudoir Shoot with me! Gift vouchers are instantly downloadable, so you can purchase one right up until the very last minute!
