Can I Wear a Dress for a Boudoir Shoot?

Apr 12, 2020 | Boudoir

‘Can I wear a dress for a boudoir shoot?’ is one of my most frequently asked questions, and the response is always, absolutely! For me, the concept of a boudoir shoot is about celebrating you and your relationship with your body, regardless of your state of undress. I’ve always said that confidence is the sexiest thing you can wear to a shoot; whether you’re dressed in your Friday night glamourpuss best or rocking your birthday suit, you’re always welcome in my boudoir.

I’ve covered a lot of lingerie looks on the blog over the years – including brand recommendations for fuller busts, smaller busts and even some non-lingerie looks – but this blog post might here is dedicated to showing you 10 glamorous ways you can style and wear a dress for a boudoir shoot…

Boudoir Outfit 1: Head to Toe Sequin Gown

There is literally no such thing as ‘over the top’ when it comes to wearing a dress for a boudoir shoot, so I’m kicking off this post with all the glitz and sparkle from Norway based pinup model Marion Massacre. Opting for a boudoir dress with a killer leg split will give you plenty of wiggle room to achieve a wider range of statement poses too.

Boudoir Outfit 2: Off The Shoulder Dress

Even just a little bit of shoulder action can be sexy as hell, so why not bring along that off the shoulder number hanging in your wardrobe. The Tilly dress from The Pretty Dress Company is a regular staple in many of my clients’ wardrobes and comes in a wide range of fabrics and colours.

Boudoir Outfit 3: Leopard Print Couture

Love leopard print? Me too! Here’s a head to toe leopard couture look that international burlesque superstar Immodesty Blaize wore for her most recent shoot with me, complete with faux fur train and matching opera gloves. It was such a dream to shoot for my new coffee table book STRIP/TEASE.

Boudoir Outfit 4: The Wedding Dress

Fancy a bit of bridal boudoir? You could always bring in your wedding dress for a boudoir shoot – or a ‘trash the dress shoot’ as they are sometimes known. Hollie had her dress re-tailored by her mum after her wedding day so that she could re-purpose it for a boudoir shoot – and I think you’ll agree she looks AMAZING in it. Maybe it might be time to get yours out of storage?

Boudoir Outfit 5: The Wedding Dress Part 2

Speaking of wedding dresses, here’s another offering from Jana Royale, who dyed her wedding dress this gorgeous pink colour after the big day and re-purposed it for her vintage makeover shoot with me in Gothenburg. The floaty fabric of this dress is really flattering and I LOVE the plunging neckline.

Boudoir Outfit 6: The Velvet Wiggle Dress

The velvet wiggle dress is another regular staple in the boudoir wardrobe, including this gold offering worn by Rizzo Zenith. A wiggle dress is perfect for defining your curves, and ruched velvet fabric is extra flattering. I love how the colour of the dress matches the soft furnishing accents of the room too!

Boudoir Outfit 7: The Flapper Dress

If you happen to be shooting in my Art Deco Inspired boudoir, you could always bring in that Gatsby-inspired flapper dress for a boudoir shoot! Here’s Jolie Papillon wearing a beaded number from Deco Haus – and it also has a detachable inner slip for those of you that prefer your flapper dress a little more risqué!

Boudoir Outfit 8: The Ultimate Robe

Of course, if you’re looking for something in between lingerie and a full dress, then why not consider a full-length boudoir robe. Something like this Rosie Red offering is great for keeping you covered up, whilst being able to play with the fabric to create unlimited boudoir pose variations.
