Combining two of my passions – breathtaking architecture and photography – what an absolute privilege is was to create this set of editorial images for Old Royal Naval College, an extraordinary cultural destination in the heart of the Maritime Greenwich UNESCO World Heritage Site, to celebrate 100 years of filming at this iconic location.

Over the last century, Old Royal Naval College has featured in more than 300 productions, making them the UK’s most filmed heritage location. Making appearances in Bridgerton, The Crown, The Dark Knight Rises, Pirates Of The Caribbean, and most recently Jurassic World: Rebirth… you might be surprised by how many times you’ve seen it on screen! There’s something truly special about photographing in spaces where countless iconic movie moments have come to life – and I feel so privileged to now be a part of that legacy.

Originally connecting with Visit Herts via the Herts, Camera, Action! project – where I created a series of extra special photography workshops offering a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes at some of Hertfordshire’s premiere filming locations, including a 1940s inspired ‘Planes & Pinups‘ photoshoot day at De Havilland Aircraft Museum – the project gave me the chance to connect with incredible properties across Hertfordshire, share their stories visually, and celebrate the vibrant film culture we have on our doorstep.

The connections made within this project, and later on through the Herts Film & TV Supply Chain Innovation Programme – in particular with Screen Tourism Specialist and Destination Consultant Seren Welch – were pivotal in this project coming to life.

Working with historic and/or protected spaces requires a special touch – so I made sure to bring all of my wealth of archival and conservational photography knowledge from my work with The Underpinnings Museum to the shoot to honour both the beautiful venue and it’s cinematic legacy. Every angle offered new possibilities as I captured content throughout the Painted Hall with fabulous model Ezme, as well as other locations around the site including the Chapel and Grounds. The images of the Painted Hall were shot with all natural lighting to capture and preserve the authentic, atmospheric lighting of the venue, as well as protect the artwork from any potential damage from flash photography.

I’m so thrilled to see my images featured across the Old Royal Naval College website, as well as across several media outlets including Time Out London, Group Leisure & Travel and Movie Marker, to launch the College’s fascinating new tour “Wigs, Weddings, Powder and Palaces” which began on April 4th. This exclusive behind‑the‑scenes experience offers you the opportunity to uncover the closely guarded secrets of filmmaking and lets you step in the shoes and onto the set of stars and discover filmmaking secrets at the UK’s most filmed heritage site – and having heard snippets of the tour during the shoot, I would highly recommend booking tickets!

The images are also being used to promote the college’s Celebrate Film 100: Guinness World Records Attempt for the largest gathering of people dressed as screen characters. In partnership with Elstree Studios, the attempt will be taking place on Saturday 27th September 2025 – more details here.

Visit Britain’s latest research shows that more than 9 out of 10 potential visitors to the UK are keen to visit a film or TV location during their trip. Their ‘Starring GREAT Britain’ campaign, launched in 2025, is leaning into this trend, using films and TV shows to inspire more visitors.

In support of VisitBritain’s global campaign, The Tourism Media Group also launched Starring GREAT Britain, atravel magazine that showcases iconic film and television locations, attractions, and experiences across the UK. The magazine invites fans to step into the real-life settings of their favourite on-screen stories, bringing film and TV-inspired travel to life like never before – and the inaugural issue features one of my images from this photoshoot on the cover!
