A collaborative ‘Dark Saint’ styled shoot with Roustabouts DJ Anna Swiczeniuk.
Following on from my last blog post with Hettie Heartache, another photographer I’ve had the pleasure of photographing recently is Anna Swiczeniuk. Forming one half of the immaculately dressed DJ duo The Roustabouts, Anna and I both share a love of the colour gold, so I was over the moon when she brought this incredible outfit with her to our most recent collaborative styled shoot.
Featuring a metallic gold bodysuit and Scarlett robe (both Playful Promises), teamed with a gold Apatico necklace headpiece and Purevile ‘Cathedral Crucifix’ necklace, the shoot had a ‘Dark Saint’ vibe as Anna perfectly described it during a couple of teaser shots that went out last week. Self styled – including her fantastic make up – I love the restricted colour scheme, combined with the layering of textures that gives the outfit so much depth – which translated perfectly in the black and white versions of this image set too.
Shot with one Elinchrom ELB 400 head and soft box in a completely blacked out room, we had full control of the lighting to achieve this high contrast lighting set up. The background for this shoot was actually a black leatherette, but it was pushed towards a blue tone in post production to complement the colour of Anna’s wig and the gold tones in the image. The saturation was increased to bring out the vibrancy of the wig and a little time was spent on taming some of the stray wisps of hair, but otherwise the retouching of these images was minimal.
I’d like to say a massive thank you to Anna for collaborating with me on this shoot. You can find a collection of our favourite images from the Dark Saint look below.
