An Interview With: Returning Client Pixie Magique

Mar 11, 2020 | Boudoir, Boudoir Interviews, Interviews

As a boudoir photographer, it is so important to me that all of my clients have a positive experience in front of my camera. I’ve been in your shoes, I know how it feels to be standing in front of an almost-stranger on set, pulling completely unnatural poses whilst trying my best to ‘look natural’ and hoping the photographer and I have the same vision! Therefore, one of the most career-affirming moments for me is when a client books in for that second shoot! One of 2019’s returning clients was Pixie Magique – who joined Miss Victory Violet and I on our vintage pinup makeover shoots at Hotel Pigalle in Gothenburg. I caught up with Pixie Magique to find out more about her, including what inspired her to come back for boudoir shoot number two….

Pixie Magique

Occupation: Laboratory engineer with a focus on fuel analysis

How would your best friend describe you? Introverted, caring, principled, geeky and with a weird sense of humour.

Name three things that you always carry with you? Wireless headphones (I’m always listening to podcasts), lip balm and sunglasses.

What was the last book you read? I am currently relistening to Oathbringer, the third part of The Stromlight Archive-series by Brandon Sanderson.

What inspired you to book a photoshoot? I think that I have always wanted to have professional photos taken of me but my lack of posing experience has held me back. I first found Tigz’s Instagram page through Miss Victory Violet and there I saw the pictures from their first makeover shoots in Gothenburg. In those pictures I saw both experienced models and ordinary women, all looking gorgeous, relaxed and beautifully posed which made me feel confident that I could too. That’s when I decided that I would jump on the opportunity if they ever decided to come back.

Who would play you in a movie of your life? Nicole Kidman [Tigz agrees!]

What’s the most interesting thing about you that the internet doesn’t know about you yet? Well, the internet barely knows anything about me, but… I am very fond of working with textiles and have made a handful of corsets based on original Victorian patterns. Nowadays I am mostly into knitting though.

Tell us about one of the outfits you wore for your shoot – why do you love it? I wore a lingerie set from the French brand Chantelle called Champs Elysée. It was quite a hassle to get my hands on it because I fell in love with a colourway that probably was from last season or even older, but with a week to spare I thankfully had the pieces in both the right size and colour! The pearl necklace that I’m wearing is precious to me, it’s an heirloom from my late grandmother.

Describe your shoot experience? This was my second shoot with Tigz and I could not be more happy with it! The first time I was very nervous, but for this round I was just excited. I wanted to challenge myself even more with this shoot than last one and started the session completely nude. Nudity is not a big deal to me (hello Swedish stereotype), but even so it was very comforting to take a step outside of my comfort zone with a photographer that I hade worked with before and who I felt safe with. The nudes turned out beautiful, but those are for my eyes only. The rest of the session was just as good, and I felt gorgeous in my hair and makeup. Being in front of the camera is incredibly fun and I am so grateful for Tigz’s help with the poses, without that I would feel so awkward. Afterwards I felt content, confident and exhausted. It is not an exaggeration to say that a photoshoot is physically challenging, I was sore in the arches of my feet and my back for several days afterwards!

What song gets you on the dancefloor? Anything from Panic! at the Disco makes my hips live a life of their own. For all other occasions in life there is power metal!

What are you most proud of in your career so far? I don’t have much of a career focus, but I am proud of how well I’m performing at work while working shift and meeting strict deadlines. I have also been positively surprised by how good I am at training new recruits at work.

What is your top body confidence tip? Focus on what your body can do, not just what it looks like. My body confidence has really skyrocketed the last two years since I found and fell in love with strength training and bicycle touring. It is so liberating and powerful to find out what your body I capable of and to push it to its limit, a limit that often is much further ahead than anticipated. Moving a heavy barbell or cycling for hours makes me feel unstoppable, strong and full of gratitude towards my own body.

What will your autobiography be called? I feel like I’m a bit too young to have figured that out, ask me again in 20 years.

If you could be a model for any brand, which brand would it be and why? I am very fond of The House of Foxy. I really enjoy their authentic silhouettes and more muted colour palette.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about booking a session of their own? Think about it, let it brew for a while and find a photographer that you like and feel comfortable with before you book. Read all the information sent to you and see if you can find any boudoir behind the scenes-videos on Youtube. For my first photoshoot I got to watch someone else have their session while I had my hair and makeup done and for me it was very calming to get an idea of what to expect myself.

What exciting project are you working on right now? I am chasing a 100kg deadlift in the gym (NOTE: Pixie emailed me in May 2022 to say she had successfully accomplished this – congratulations!) and starting to think about this year’s vacation. It will probably be some kind of bike packing tour. Perhaps in France?

Where can we find more of Pixie Magique online? You can’t! Am I even real?
