As well as my obvious passions for lingerie and photography, I have a real appreciation for beautiful architecture and interior design. When Joanna Woodward – also known on the cabaret scene as Coco Dubois – started posting images of her East London home being re-decorated with fancy black tiles and a free standing gold roll top bath, we both knew it would make the perfect setting for our next boudoir shoot together!
Joanna is currently starring in the brand new West End musical Beautiful by Carole King, so finding time around her shows, rehearsals and my own shooting schedule proved to be quite tricky. Many months had passed and in the end, with the flat now sold and moving day closing in on us rapidly, we opted for a really early start on Joanna’s last Tuesday morning in the flat when we both had just a couple of hours to spare. It actually couldn’t have been a better day for it, with glorious natural light flooding through the windows of the flat. With diffused natural light through the bedroom window providing a soft glow and hard light pouring through the dining room’s slatted blinds creating texture, it presented us with the opportunity to try a number of different looks utilising Joanna’s impressive collection of Agent Provocateur, Dita Von Teese and What Katie Did lingerie.
One of the key images we both wanted to achieve from this boudoir shoot was of Joanna in the bath tub, as the bath and tile work had been the main focus of our original shoot concept. It is a hard room to photograph in as it is incredibly narrow, but the positioning of the window provided a brilliant back light to do some nude shots and show off Joanna’s figure. Although the images were shot and edited in colour, here are a few of my favourites in black and white as I loved the heavy contrast.
