An Interview with: Boudoir Makeover Client Amanda Smith

Apr 15, 2020 | Boudoir, Boudoir Interviews, Interviews

My boudoir clients often ask me what they should wear for their boudoir shoots and, whilst lingerie is one obvious choice, another is to wear something that holds sentimental value to you. Sometimes that might be jewellery gifted by a loved one, other times it could be an item of clothing that brings back fond memories or has been inherited from a close relative. This is exactly what client Amanda Smith did when she came along to one of my vintage pinup makeover shoot days with Miss Victory Violet last year – and she absolutely rocked the shoot too!

Want to know more about Amanda Smith and the sentimental item she brought with her to wear on the day? Read on..

Occupation: Trainee billionaire/Document Specialist

How would your best friend describe you? Heaven knows! Probably that I’m easy-going, can talk the hind leg off a donkey and love to eat. In fact, I emailed her and she says “Caring, very loyal, kind, fun, lovely smile.” Also “very professional and great attention to detail.” I’ll take that, thanks!

Name three things that you always carry with you: Reading glasses, tissues and lipstick/lip balm.

What was the last book you read? Sadly, I got out of the habit of reading books towards the end of last year (too busy/too tired), so I really can’t remember! New start in 2020, so I’m currently reading The Shepherd’s Crown by Terry Pratchett, which made me cry within the first few chapters because one of my favourite characters from the Discworld died.

What inspired you to book a photoshoot? I gift myself a birthday photoshoot every couple of years – it’s a bit self-indulgent, but I love seeing how different photographers bring out different aspects of my personality and how I’ve changed over the years. Also, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to have my hair and make-up done by the gorgeous Miss Victory Violet.  Ella is such a sweetie I knew it would be a pleasure. And it was!

Who would play you in a movie of your life? Well, if we’re talking about dream casting, I’d absolutely LOVE to have Halle Berry play me, of course, because the woman is GORGEOUS!

What’s the most interesting thing about you that the internet doesn’t know about you yet? Oh, I don’t think it’s good to have everything out there… keep some mystery, folks, that’s my motto.

Tell us about one of the outfits you wore for your shoot – why do you love it? For purely sentimental reasons it’s the grey silk brocade dressing gown because it belonged to my late father – we lost him in February 2019 and my sister and I found it when we were clearing out his clothes. Typically, it was unworn – too fancy for him, bless. So it was a very special outfit for me.

Tell us about your shoot experience with Tigz! Oh, it was lovely. From sitting in the living room and chatting to Ella, catching up while she did my hair and make-up, to discussing my outfits and what would look best on camera, then the whole process of being photographed, posing and laughing, feeling so special and glamorous, the whole day was a blast. And of course the photos were so beautiful I had real trouble making the final selection of images.

What song gets you on the dancefloor? It’s been a while, but Abba, Madonna, that kind of thing.

What are you most proud of in your career so far? Being headhunted to go to Australia is a big highlight, but mostly I don’t worry about a career as such – it’s a job, it pays the bills. Life outside work is my focus.

What is your top body confidence tip? You’re asking the wrong person! Although I have to say that a smile goes a long way.

What will your autobiography be called? How did I get here?

If you could be a model for any brand, which brand would it be and why? Revival Retro Boutique, because they have some great retro brands and I LOVE their own range clothes.

What advice would you give to anyone thinking about booking a session of their own? Do it. You’ll have a fabulous time and get some beautiful images to remember it with. And you can be as dressed or undressed as you feel comfortable with.

What exciting project are you working on right now? I’m writing a novel, it’s a slow process.
