Hello, gorgeous! How’s social distancing life treating you? Whilst lockdown regulations continue to slowly lift, I’ve been continuing my little virtual tour of the world by offering Virtual Boudoir Shoots from the comfort of my studio chair. Having now visited Amsterdam, Norway, Germany, Sweden and several of the US states, I’m so pleased to bring to the blog today, for your viewing pleasure, the results of a recent shoot with ‘The Enchantress of New Mexico’, burlesque performer Mayo Lua de Frenchie.
Mayo Lua de Frenchie’s Virtual Boudoir Shoot took place using the back facing camera of their iPhone. Isn’t technology amazing?! No matter what device you have available to you, as long as its wifi-connected and has an in-built camera, we can make a virtual boudoir shoot happen for you. Read all about Mayo Lua de Frenchie’s experiences below…
Mayo Lua de Frenchie
Occupation: Burlesque performer, producer, choreographer and instructor
How would your best friend describe you? They’d probably say I’m loud, opinionated and giving. Or at least, I hope. Lol
Name three things that you always carry with you? A mask, hand sanitizer and my cigarettes. Because health.
What was the last book you read? Quackery: A Brief History of the Worst Cures for Everything
Do you remember how you originally found me? Oh, I’ve been watching your work for years! I remember friends shooting with you during Burlesque Hall of Fame 2019 – for your book, I believe. But Helena Handbasket connected us.
What inspired you to book an empowering virtual photoshoot? Seeing so much of your stellar work over the years and finally having the opportunity to do so virtually. I have always preferred working with women, so that really sealed the deal.
Who would play you in a movie of your life? I really hope it would be Krysten Ritter. She’s much taller than me, but I feel like we’re pretty much the same person.
Whats the most interesting thing about you that the internet doesn’t know about you yet? The internet might not know, but anyone close to me knows I make the best damn fried chicken. Possibly the best you’ve ever had. I’m a pretty baller Southern cook.
Tell us about one of the outfits you wore for your shoot – why do you love it? I really love the trash glam look and that’s what I was going for in my shoot. The wig was made by a local Albuquerque drag queen, Avery Taureaux. I love looking like I could destroy someone with a look.
Describe your Virtual Boudoir Shoot experience? It was an absolutely lovely shoot! One of my chief complaints when I shoot – especially with men – is that many photographers do not know how to get a woman to look or feel sexy. You do. Women do. And I knew, even in the format we shot in – virtually, in my home – that I would get tons of beautiful, usable shots. There’s nothing worse than a laborious 3 hour shoot that you get 1 or 2 usable photos from.
What song gets you on the dancefloor? Anything by Missy Elliott. Completely irresistible! Specifically, “WTF”.
What are you most proud of in your career so far? I’d have to say completing my first solo tour last year. It was really successful and I went the entire trip on my own. Quite liberating to know I could do it.
What is your top body confidence tip? Stop trying to hide the things you hate. Stare at them. Let others stare at them. Live in them. It’s not easy, but you can learn to be at peace with your [perceived] flaws.
What will your autobiography be called? Brutally Honest and Always Ready to Leave: The Mayo Lua de Frenchie Story
If you could be a model for any brand, which brand would it be and why? Akira (Chicago). I feel like I can pull off pretty much anything in their store – and would with the opportunity.
What advice would you give to anyone thinking about booking a Virtual Boudoir Photoshoot of their own? Do it. You’ll be able to see what everyone else sees when they look at you: perfection.
What do you think is the BEST thing about lockdown? I’ve been burning the candle at both ends for years and it is not in my personality to take a break. It’s either 200% or zero. There’s no in between with me. This was a forced break and I’ve been able to do things I haven’t had time to do in years!
What do you think is the WORST thing about lockdown? I miss performing in front of audiences so much. And looks like it will be some time before we can be intimate with our audiences again.
What are you most looking forward to doing when lockdown is over? Going out to a bar! I want to drink, laugh, eat and be entertained! But only when it’s absolutely safe to do so.
What exciting project are you working on right now? I’m working on a couple of new acts that I’m REALLY excited about and will debut some time after the world is up and running again. One I’ll tell you about is inspired by the film Midsommar. It’s going to be a little creepy and a lot of power. Coming to a stage near you!
