An Art Deco themed shoot at Fontaine’s with Jolie Papillon
After Jolie Papillon posted at the weekend about it being 5 years since I photographed her on stage winning Burlesque Idol in London, it seemed fitting that Jolie would be the star of this week’s blog post. Inspired by her new vintage inspired Starlet midi dress from LA based vintage inspired fashion label The Deco Haus, we arranged a shoot date at Fontaine’s, the most perfect location for such an outfit.
Arriving on location around lunchtime, Jolie finished doing her hair and make up whilst I set up one Elichrom ELB400 head with a 130 strip softbox. The lighting in Fontaine’s is brilliantly atmospheric, so instead of overpowering it with flash, I decided to leave the head on it’s daylight balanced modelling lamp setting, offering a not towards the popular coloured gel lighting setup against the bar’s available light sources and their warm tungsten glow.
Starting with some reclining poses on top of the gorgeous dark wood bar, Jolie posed with elegant perfection in front of my camera. Working our way around the room, we used as much of the bar as possible – focusing our attention on the four table top lamps on the corners of the bar to provide soft glowing highlights. Shooting at a high ISO to capture as much light as possible, this also gave the images a lovely grain that I decided to keep in post production. Below you will find a few of our favourite images from the shoot.
As well as this stunning outfit from The Deco Haus, we also shot a second look on the day, which will be up on the blog very soon!
I’d like to say a huge thank you to Fontaine’s for accommodating the shoot and for looking after us so well throughout the day. It is one of my favourite places in London and I’m excited to be taking the Tigz Rice Studios team there for our Christmas party this year too! If you haven’t already checked out Fontaine’s, here’s everything you need to know.
