As a lingerie photographer, its rare that I get men in front of my camera. Having looked back through 5 years of the Tigz Rice Studios archives, the number of male subjects in my portfolio came to a grand total of eight. With that in mind, back in January I made a business resolution to even out my portfolio’s male to female ratio a little, so I was really delighted to hear that there would be a selection of male models for Haringtons Soho‘s new male hair campaign.
Throughout the two day shoot at Paradise By Way Of Kensal Green in North London, I really enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone and embraced the creative challenges of applying my knowledge of photographing females to the male physique. It was interesting to see how the same lighting I use to contour female faces became more exaggerated, really emphasising cheekbones and jawlines. There was also a bit of a learning curve in post production as well, as I’ve never really had to worry about retouching facial hair or chin stubble before!
Here are a few of my favourite images of the male hair models from both days, featuring incredible make up by Celine Nonon and styling by Aiden Connor for Ghanem Couture. Whilst the final collection were all close ups on the hair, I’ve also included a few wide shots from the day to show off the styling and surroundings.
