The were many highlights of 2015 for me. One of which was being invited to attend Oxford Conference of Corsetry as an official photographer for this year’s annual conference. For those of you who haven’t heard of it before, Oxford Conference Of Corsetry is a weekend of workshops, talks, photoshoots and networking all dedicated to the wonderful world of corsetry. Taking place over the August bank holiday weekend each year, the conference is the only one of its kind in the industry and is a respected event in the corsetier’s calendar, drawing delegates from all over the world.
As part of the conference, the Sunday is set aside to for delegates to book in for a photoshoot, collaborating with photographers and models from the corsetry and lingerie industries to show off their skills at creating a made to measure masterpiece. Throughout the day, I had the chance to work with around 8-10 designers in total. One of the shoots featured the work of new designer Cristina Aielli, who travelled all the way from her home in Rome to attend Oxford Conference Of Corsetry. Having studied haute couture in Rome for three years before going on to specialise in lingerie design in Milan, Cristina definitely made waves at the conference with her designs, worn by industry renowned corsetry model Morgana. Featuring a black underbust corset and a lace and mesh halter neck bra, the collection couldn’t have fitted Morgana any more perfectly. Heading into the library at Jesus College, Oxford University, the old leather-bound books made a brilliant backdrop for the shoot, offering a muted colour scheme for this collection of images.
Cristina Aielli’s website is still under construction at the moment as she launches her brand, but it the mean time you can sign up for her newsletter here and be the first to know when her site goes live. I will also be posting more about the conference and some of the other designers that I had the privilege of working with over the next few weeks.
