A Kickstarter campaign shoot for UK lingerie brand Kiss Me Deadly

Some of the best emails that land in my inbox are from Catherine at Kiss Me Deadly. Am I available short notice to photograph a murder mystery themed lingerie Kickstarter campaign next week? Count me in!

Kiss Me Deadly have featured on the blog a few times over the years, in particular when Catherine lent me a suitcase full of lingerie and swimwear for my boudoir workshops in Lanzarote earlier this year. I absolutely love their shape wear collection, the longline girdles and the cupels Vargas dress are brilliant for cinching everything in underneath those figure hugging pin up styles. Also, can we talk about how amazing their current black and gold Angelou set is? I digress…

The shoot took place at Old Cholmeley Boys Club in Dalston and it was a pleasure to join Catherine and Lydia Darling, along with models Aurora Starr, Yazzmin, Felicity Furore and Didi Derriere. All established arts, circus or burlesque performers (three of them you may recognise from previous shoots), the models were self-styled with their own hair and make up, choosing one of the sets from the Kickstarter collection to model for the murder mystery video. The collection features a blue set based on 50s quarter cups and a swimming corset from 1902, a red girdle set with an unusual provocative print and retro V plunge wire, very limited edition custom dyed Vargas shapewear, and a plum version of the 30’s, Schiaparelli-inspired Leonie satin robe and gown.

In between filming takes, I worked on a series of mini photo sessions with each model in the same location to support the campaign via stills. Using a mix of ambient light – along with a little help from one of my Elinchrom ELB400 heads and a strip soft box – the room at Old Cholmeley Boys Club was perfect as it offered plenty of variety in terms of background for the shoot – and we certainly made sure we used every single inch of that room! There was a skylight above, which had been covered over with a red tarpaulin to block some of the light from filtering through and help with continuity of lighting throughout the day. The pink glow is just visible on Aurora (in the blue quarter cup bra) and Didi (blue Vargas dress) as well as giving a slight rose tint to the other images as well.

The images were then subjected to my signature style of editing, providing an expedited retouching service so that the Kickstarter could be launched as soon as possible. It was great to work with the Kiss Me Deadly team and I really thrived off the fast pace of this project. If you’re looking for someone to work with on a tight schedule, I am that woman!

If you want to find out more about the Kiss Me Deadly Kickstarter, here’s a link. I pledged for one of the limited edition blue Vargas dresses and its one of my favourite pieces in my lingerie drawer!
