Founded in 1999 by Katie Thomas, What Katie Did are one of the world’s leading brands of faux vintage lingerie, specialising in the recreation of silver screen glamour. Selling everything a vintage loving girl could wish for in her lingerie drawer – from great fitting ready-to-wear corsetry to fully fashioned stockings – I’m a regular customer there myself. Therefore, being asked to work with Katie to promote the new What Katie Did S/S 2015 Lingerie Collection was one of the highlights of my year so far!
The shoot took place at Fontaine’s, a beautiful art deco bar in the heart of East London, with burlesque performer Slinky Sparkles modelling the new collection. It was lovely to finally meet with Amanda from vintage hair and make up brand Lipstick & Curls too, having crossed paths on many occasions but having never actually met in person! Whilst Amanda set Slinky Sparkles’ hair and make up into an elegant 20’s style, I got out my Elinchrom Quadras and started setting up for the shoot.
The brief for the shoot was to maintain the ambience of the bar, which has soft lighting from a couple of gorgeous light fittings in the ceiling and tealights dotted around the bar. With this in mind, I kicked up the ISO on the back of my Canon 5D MKiii, using the modelling light on the Quadras to add just a little more soft light into the images.
Whilst the Glamour Corsolette in Peach is still my absolute favourite piece from What Katie Did (aside from the Morticia Underbust Corset that is!), I really liked the tones and the fit of the Vivien Collection. I fear an expensive shopping trip to the Portobello boutique coming very soon!
