Despite having a rather extensive lingerie collection, shopping for holiday swimwear has always felt like a completely different ball game. Not only do you need to find something that fits your body, but there’s also the added need to stay put in water, as well as that age-old ‘I hope it doesn’t go see-through’ worry! With that in mind, here are some great brands offering Vintage inspired swimwear to get you started on your search…
Vintage Inspired Swimwear Brands
For Luna is probably one of the most well-known vintage swimwear stockists, and they have got a range of wonderful true-to-era swimsuit styles. I particularly love The Carmen -Exotic Flower Retro Swimsuit; the vibrant tropical print is so pretty. Fitting from a size UK 8 to 24, it’s got some lovely reviews about the fit which is so reassuring. It’s calling out for a Pina Colada, a large sun hat and big shades.
Whilst Curvy Kate isn’t a vintage swimwear brand, I have to include their wrapsody black bandeau swimsuit in this list because as soon as I saw it I bought it. I love that Curvy Kate modelled the swimsuit on a range of body shapes and sizes, showing just how many ways the swimsuit can be worn, making it a staple swimsuit for the beach or poolside. With cup sizes from a D to a K and band sizing from 28 to 44, Curvy Kate say “Just think of the Wrapsody as your LBS (little black swimsuit)” They also do a bikini top, which I recently bought for my trip to Ibiza.
I love that Unique Vintage arrange their collections by era, so if you’re looking for something particularly 1920’s then it’s there in the click of a button. Vintage swimwear styles suit so many body shapes and come in a wide range of styles (which is why I love them!) but I’ve got a special bit of love for anything high-waisted.
Bettylicious is a UK based independent online vintage swimwear retailer, and really have everything you could ever want in a 1950’s retro number for the beach or lounging on the poolside. Bettylicious also have their own underwired swimwear range, and stock a host of other big brand names in vintage swimwear. They are also the only UK stockist for Miss Janna, who make sustainable vintage-inspired swimwear 100% recycled nylon sourced from discarded products. Another small change you can make that has a great impact.
Top Vintage not only do swimwear, they also have a range of sunhats; the perfect swimwear accessory, that isn’t a cocktail! I love their lobster print and the 60’s swimsuits with contrasting simple white lines.
