A list of Christmas gift ideas for photographers and where to buy them…

Photographers are notoriously hard to buy for. Everything we want is usually either hugely expensive or so cheap in comparison that we rush out and buy it immediately. If you’ve got a photographer in your life that you’re struggling to find the perfect gift for, I’ve compiled a list of my favourite Christmas gift ideas below that cover a range of budgets – most of which I either own or wouldn’t mind receiving myself. (Hint).

£8 – Blog Post Planner  – Back in January, I made myself a business resolution that I would blog once a week for the entire year. The challenge has not been easy, although it definitely has become more enjoyable as the year has gone on! With only six weeks left to go, one of the tools that has significantly helped me over the past year is my Blog Post Planner, which allows me to tick off various stages of blog posts as they are done/uploaded.

£18 – Polaroid 600 Film – This year I’ve really gotten into instant film, buying a Fujifilm Instax Mini 90 as well as being gifted a vintage Polaroid from the wonderful Silly Thanh. If you know a photographer that likes to shoot film, why not pop some into their stocking this Christmas. (Hint: Buying for me? This film fits my camera!)

£18 – Instant Photo Coasters  – On the subject of instant film, how cool are these instant photo coasters from Urban Outfitters! I’d totally fill mine with my favourite photographs of showgirls.

£26 – Newton. Polaroids – Another great idea is a coffee table style book of photographic inspiration. I found this book of Helmut Newton’s polaroids whilst I was in Stockholm last year and fell in love with the vibrancy of the blues in his images. £32 – A4 Lightbox – I finally bought myself one of these back in June and I LOVE IT! Reminiscent of the vintage cinema signs, it sits in the doorway to my studio and I pop messages on it to greet guests or – in this case – use for blog post pictures! This little one is great for small desks, mantlepieces or bookshelves.

£32 – Joby Gorillapod – This recommendation comes via James, who bought one for New York. I’ve always been sceptical about them as they’re quite small and figured they wouldn’t hold the weight of my Canon, but it was PERFECT for travelling with the Fuji. It was great for working on uneven surfaces and even securing the camera to railings when a flat surface wasn’t available.

£50 – LuMee Perfect Selfie iPhone 6 Case -The perfect gift for the selfie lover. I’m not even a massive selfie taker, but I quite fancy one of these…

£103 – Year’s Subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud Photographer’s Bundle – Give the gift of industry standard editing software, with the brilliant Photographer’s bundle from Adobe. Offering full versions of Lightroom and Photoshop, as well as regular updates and access to a whole bunch of handy mobile apps, this really is the gift that keeps on giving.

£149 – Fresnel Style floor lamp – After the Glamour of the Gods exhibition in London a few years back, I’ve been obsessed with fresnel lights. Whilst on a shoot with Hettie Heartache earlier in the year, I noticed she had a lamp in her room that resembled the iconic design of the cinematic studio lights. I have the perfect spot in mind for one in my living room…

£150 – Photoshop or Lightroom Workshop with Tigz – If you know a photographer that struggles with their editing, why not book them a place on my Lightroom or Photoshop workshops next April. These workshops are designed to give photographers the knowledge they need to spend less time in front of the screen and more time doing what they love: taking photos.

£249 – Wacom Intuos Pro Tablet – I’m attached to my Wacom tablet. It allows me to retouch artwork fluidly and with far more precision than I’ve ever found possible with a mouse. There are plenty of awesome features built in, like pen pressure and touch gestures, but my favourite feature is the radial menu, allowing me to keep all of my Photoshop actions easily accessible at one click of the pen.

£300 – Boudoir Masterclass – Alternatively, why not give the gift of a new skill? My Art Of Boudoir Masterclass is back for 2017. Proving popular with seasoned photographers who want to offer an additional service, the masterclass also attracts photography enthusiasts who want to experience a shoot under the guidance and support of an industry professional.

£369 (roughly) – Loupedeck – This brilliant new invention offers a completely hands on approach to Lightroom editing. The down side to this gift is that it definitely won’t be delivered by Christmas, but if you act quickly, you might just catch the end of their Indigogo campaign and pick one up a little cheaper in time for next year’s gift!
